We sell good, original BMW, used E28 5-Series 528e 1982-1988 radiator units. The price is $80 plus shipping.
Bavarian Motor Parts really seems to know the BMW parts business. Their units seem high-quality as far as I can tell, though they are not from the original manufacturer. For cars with manual transmissions, their radiator is priced at just over $230 and they reference the BMW part number as being 17 11 1 468 063. For cars with automatic transmissions, their radiator is priced at just over $255 and they reference the BMW part number as being 17 11 1 468 064.
The original manufacturer, who made this part for BMW, is Behr.
Euromotives offers a new OEM Behr brand radiator for just over $240, for cars with a manual transmission. For the part for cars with an automatic transmission, their price is, literally, $230. I like that they don’t insult my intelligence or play games by pricing it at $229.95 or something like that.
SoCalMotorsport has the same unit for $174.95 for cars with the manual transmission.
The dealer price is, allegedly, $366.27. Wow.
I also visited a generic website that specializes in radiators. I typed in information to identify my car. The screen went dim and a chat window opened. For a while, nothing happened and then someone asked if I know the engine size of a1987 528e (which came with only one engine size). I left.
Another option is to go remove the part from a help-yourself junkyard, but their prices tend to not be all that competitive for this particular type of part, especially when you factor in the core charge.
We don’t charge a core charge. Some vendors do. To redeem the core charge, you have to take or send your old part back to where you did the transaction, within a particular span of dates. This seems reasonable — yet often, this ends up being non-viable in practical reality. In such cases, the core charge ends up as simply one more cost.
It’s probably safe to say that our used, original BMW units are price-competitive.
